Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has upgraded the power transformer at the Tayabas Delivery Point (DP) Substation from 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) to 300 MVA. This strategic move will address the growing power demand in Quezon and nearby towns in Laguna.

Located in a fast-developing area, the upgraded 230kV–115kV substation now offers N-1 contingency and supports high load growth, making Meralco’s distribution system more resilient. The upgrade is also expected to reduce system loss by an estimated 168,691.32 kilowatt-hours.

The new transformer enhances power reliability for a wide range of key establishments, including Tayabas Community Hospital Inc., Southern Luzon State University, ACE Medical Center Sariaya, Primark Town Center Tayabas, Pacific Mall Lucena, Quezon Medical Center, Lucena MMG General Hospital, the Quezon Provincial Governor’s Office, and SM City Lucena.

Meralco said the transformer upgrade would also enable the substation to accommodate additional load applications in the future, supporting the continued development of Quezon and surrounding areas.

“The uprating of the Tayabas power transformer is just one of the many projects we have lined up to enhance the reliability and capacity of our distribution system. Projects like this enable us to continue providing safe, stable, and sufficient power to homes, businesses, and vital institutions in fast-developing areas like Quezon Province,” said Froilan J. Savet, Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks.

“As energy demand continues to grow, we remain dedicated to building a resilient distribution network that is capable of supporting economic development that ultimately improves the lives of Filipinos,” Savet added.
